This course is an introduction to academic writing in the context of health and social care. It focuses on professional and academic writing, critical thinking, and communication, particularly within nursing and kinesiology contexts. Students will develop strategies to improve their written and verbal communications, with particular attention to argumentation and rhetoric, text structure, style, grammar, punctuation, and usage. In addition, they will develop strategies to more effectively read, analyze, assess, and respond to texts, including scholarly research publications. In this course, students will study and practice various forms of academic and professional communication through both formal and informal writing assignments, culminating in an academic research essay.
